Top 3 Local Companies and Services For Dog Lovers
If you love your dogs as much as I love mine, you know how important it is to find the perfect products and services for their unique needs. Every dog is different and taking care of them can be challenging but more often than not it's beyond rewarding. I saw a poem at my vet's office a couple weeks back, and it was the most accurate description of the relationship between man and dog that I've heard yet.
We give dogs time we can spare, space we can spare and love we can spare. And in return, dogs give us their all. It's the best deal man has ever made.
This really sums it all up! It's time to give a little more to the 'man's best friend' in each of our lives, here are some ways I do just that.
Training your dog gives them confidence to know when they are doing the right thing and eliminates the confusion that dogs must feel when you ask them to do something they haven't been trained on how to do. Imagine if you went to a new job where you didn't understand any of the technical jargon people were using, and no one took the time to train you on what it meant. How would you succeed? (Remember dogs can't use the internet.) Since training our dogs, I've noticed how much happier they are when they understand clear commands and how much they look forward to receiving praise when they follow them.
My favorite local trainer: K9 Changes
This one is a plus for both our dogs and us. If you know me well, you know I'm all about conveniency and maximizing time. I go grocery shopping during my lunch break and work out in the mornings before work to pack in as much as I can in one day. Being able to drop my dogs off somewhere in the morning for a grooming session saves me the time of having to do it myself, and also creates a perfect cushion of time to go out to breakfast with my husband. The fact that it's only a couple blocks away doesn't hurt either!
My favorite local groomer: All About The Dogs
Lastly, let's talk necessities: Food and Treats! My dogs are labradors and thus very food motivated. They love their treats, and I love to feel good about what I'm feeding them. I like to know they are getting an amazingly nutritious meal formulated for their needs but it can take some time to figure out the best option which is why it's important to go somewhere with the knowledge and expertise necessary to consult with you on those options. If you're only going to pick one of these tips to implement, this should be it.
My favorite local shop: theDogWorksCATS2
Lastly, there is a bonus company I'd like to highlight in this post. They are not originally local but they now have a branch in downtown Columbus - Bark & Co They host many events at their Columbus office, including one I just attended today called Bark on the Runway. It was a dog adoption fashion show where 100% of the profits were being donated to local dog rescues. If you're not already signed up for their newsletter you should get on it, and I hope to see you at their next event!
